چکیده

The infrared thermography (thermal imaging) is considered a flexible, non-contact, and non-destructive tool used to evaluate wide variety of coating attributes (e.g. appearance and protective attributes). This paper addresses the application of thermographic systems in evaluating the protective-coating coverage over steel substrates in two different painting industries. First case is the inspection of the ballast ship tanks coating for "Holidays" or missed coated spots. The second describes the development of an automated thermographic system, designed to inspect for: thin coating, coat cracking, and coat chipping of an anti-corrosive paint applied on automotive steel containers. This work describes the theory of detection and the thermographic system design and implementation that include the hardware and the software development, where an in-house code is used to process the acquired data.

Evaluation of Heterogeneity of Paint Coating on Metal Substrate Using Laser Infrared Thermography and Eddy Current

Abstract—Non contact evaluation of the thickness of paint coatings can be attempted by different destructive and nondestructive methods such as cross-section microscopy, gravimetric mass measurement, magnetic gauges, Eddy current, ultrasound or terahertz. Infrared thermography is a nondestructive and non-invasive method that can be envisaged as a useful tool to measure the surface thickness var...

Investigation of the oxidation behavior of Mn-coated AISI 441 steel for SOFCs interconnect application

Protective coatings that resist oxide scale growth and decrease chromium evaporation are necessary to makestainless steel interconnect materials for long-term durable operation of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). Inthis study a layer of manganese was coated on the surface of AISI 441 ferritic stainless steel which is used insolid oxide fuel cells for interconnect applications. The oxidation beha...

Active Infrared Thermography for Non Destructive Evaluation of Defects in Wear Resistance and Thermal Barrier Coatings

In fossil fuel power generation plants, steam generation tubes and turbine blades are critical for overall performance of plant. The materials are subjected to bear heavy wear and temperature during operation. The manufacturer has an option of using high wear resistant and high temperature materials which are costlier or using cheaper materials with ceramic coatings over it. The coatings expose...
